WP I: Work Processes

This WP provides a platform to ensure that all APSODLE services are tailored to a worker’s work situation. Solutions that detect the diverse situations that can arise during work are essential pre-requisites for delivering relevant knowledge to workers without impeding their work. We will deliver innovative solutions that use users’ work environments to infer their work goals, tasks, and foci. We will also deliver solutions that will make users aware of knowledge and artefacts that are relevant to these work tasks without causing unnecessary disruption to the tasks.

WP II: Self-Directed Learning

This WP provides solutions that deliver relevant knowledge artefacts to workers so that they can learn from them effectively. Research will be in three parts – developing techniques that infer user learning goals from user profiles and work-specific learning templates, developing effective learning strategies, and generating user competence learning models. We will design and implement cognitive scaffolds to provide effective guidance to learners. This will include guidance from human experts and instructors that will be made available using solutions from WP III.

WP III: Contextualized Collaboration

Provides solutions that define components for contextualized collaboration and design communication tools specific to the learning domain. Deliverables from the work package include solutions that automatically create context models and capture communication acts. Context models enable the meta-tagging of knowledge artefacts. The expert is then enabled to review and revise the captured communication acts. This WP enriches the underlying Integrated Knowledge Structure (WP IV) with the newly captured context and communication information.

WP IV: Integrated Knowledge Structure

Designs the basic architecture of the APOSDLE platform, enables context-sensitive retrieval of knowledge artefacts, and automatically builds one integrated semantic knowledge structure. This work package will automatically create integrated semantic knowledge structures (e.g. associative networks) from the semantic structures of the 3spaces. These structures will enable intelligent knowledge retrieval and delivery to users using techniques such as spreading activation algorithms.

WP V: Semantic Spaces

The APOSDLE infrastructure will enable homogeneous access to the underlying technological systems and will extract semantic structures from them. The infrastructure will enable the retrieval and storage of knowledge artefacts with key meta-data and communication-data. It will also support the semi-automatic creation of dynamic semantic structures in unstructured knowledge spaces using knowledge discovery techniques. Connectors to diverse underlying technical systems will be developed.

WP VI: Requirements, Application and Evaluation

The work package provides vital integration and research and application work in APOSDLE. It uses state-of-the-art requirements techniques that all APOSDLE stakeholders and partners can use to agree the requirements specification that informs subsequent design, implementation and evaluation of the APOSDLE solutions. Three domain specific APOSDLE implementations will be realized on site of the application partners. User evaluation experts will conduct both formative and summative evaluation studies to explore complex usability and utility questions that will arise. Short-term and long-term evaluation will ensure that these requirements are met within the research and implementation activities.
